First Thougths on Eurovision...but Belgium

 Hallo hallo hallo!

't Is EUROSONG TIJD! Of toch bijna :) Maar voor ons, Belgen, is het wel heel dicht aan het komen! 14 januari kiezen wij uit onze 7 artiesten en 14 liedjes wie we naar Liverpool sturen. En eindelijk hebben we er weer zelf iets over te zeggen. 

En in good old Eurovision blogpost fashion houden we dit jaar, naast onze gewoonlijke "thoughts on" blogpost, ook een blog review gedachten.... post over onze eigen mogelijke inzendingen! Wie geen idee heeft waar ik het over heb : Editie 1 lees je HIER , Editie 2 lees je HIER, editie 3 lees je HIER, editie 4 lees je HIER, editie 5 lees je dan weer HIER  (afgelast maar toch een blog!) editie 6 lees je dan weer HIER. Ook onze Pinguïn - zijnde Naomi - en Cynische Shannona zitten alvast opnieuw klaar om de 14 liedjes te ontleden! Een kleine opwarmer voor de inzendingen van mei... Stay tuned voor die post ;) 

Uiteraard is niets persoonlijk in deze blogpost aanvallend bedoeld naar de zangers toe maar geven we gewoon onze mening. Geniet er van en laat vooral een reactie achter met jullie top 5!

Armageddon 

M: Catchy maar ik ben geen fan van haar make-up of haar podium presence...of dat kleed. Zeker niet dat kleed.

S: Waarom vond ik het stuk waarbij ze niet zingt beter?

N: Ik sluit me bij Shannona aan.

The Carnival

M: Ik ken dat gelijk ergens van.

S: Heeft nog iets...

N: Leuk ritme maar niet echt iets voor eurosong

ça m'ennuie pas

M: Ok, mijn Frans is nu nie zo slecht maar ik versta daar geen snars van? Ben ik de enige? Also, wat heeft die aan jongens? 

S: Zo vrolijk als het gaat in Frans.

N: Ik vind het een beetje zagerig overkomen

Mon étoile

M: Ja, al beter verstaanbaar! Mooi liedje maar niets voor eurosong.

S: Nee dank u.

N: Al veel beter dan het eerste. 

Loredana

Dream in Colours

M: Als ik moet gokken zeg ik dat dit de song is die niet geschreven is door Patje en Loredana. Eurosonggenre dat we zo'n 30 keer per show horen ja, winnaar, nee. 

S: Meh.

N: Mooi! maar inderdaad geen eurosong winnaar.

You Lift me up

M: Behoorlijke Loreen vibes deze! Maar dit is een hit voor Tomorrowland, niet het songfestival.

S: Het begint goed maar tegen het refrein is ze me toch kwijt.

N: Ja, dit is een goeie!

The Starlings

Rollercoaster

M: Ja, van de twee die de Starlings hebben ingezonden is dit mijn favoriet. Het refrein - voor zover we het in het kort fragment een refrein kunnen noemen - blijft echt zitten. Beetje zoals Snap van vorig jaar. Of het gaat winnen - doubtfull - maar het is een leuk nummer!

S: Nope!

N: Mijn top favo van de twee :) 

Oceanside

M: Even wat chromatiek er in, niet mis. Eurosongmateriaal, ja, maar dan hopelijk iets met act en veel vuurwerk :p 

S: Misschien als het door iemand anders gezongen werd.

N: Sorry maar eigenlijk wel al fan van in het begin, nu ik ben fan van the starlings dus ja een klein beetje gekleurd in mening ;) 

Hunter Falls

Ooh la la 

M: Ja. Dit zie ik nog staan op eurosong. Het is catchy, geen lelijkaard, zijn beter werk ook!

S: Niet slecht maar maakt dat het goed?

N: De titel is wel wat K3, leuk liedje maar basic.

Home

M: Hadden ze gezegd, 't is Stieg Dendoncker, ik ging het van ver ook geloofd hebben. Hij kan zingen ja, dit is een radiohit 100% maar geen eurosongtop.

S: Waarschijnlijk wel het beste dat ik hier gehoord heb.

N: Goeie song maar 2 jaar geleden hadden we ook ne titel ' the wrong place' en nu 'home' en tekst als 'i'll be going back home' misschien niet direct de juste spirit voor eurovision :p 

Gustaph

Because of you 

M: Ja, hij doet mij wat denken aan een kruising tussen die gast van Israël van vorig jaar, met hoed, en Henk Rijckaert. Hij zal de Queer community wel achter zich hebben, dat zeker maar mijn oren niet. Hoewel het liedje catchy is en misschien wel eurosongwaardig. 

S: Ik voel vooral mijn bloeddruk stijgen...

N: haha bedankt Margo. Ik zie nu enkel maar Henk voor mij. Ik ben meer fan van dat ander lied met dezelfde titel. 

The Nail

M: Tekst zit goed hé maar dit is het niet jongen, nee nee nee. Dat is zo'n muziek dat een hip restaurant opzet in de achtergrond zonder de tekst. 

S: Ietsje beter dan het eerste maar nog steeds niet om mee naar Eurosong te gaan.

N: Bizar.

Gala Dragot

Emotion Ollie

M: Ok, mijn eerste idee toen ik haar naam las: Wacht. Wie? XD Mijn brein was er van overtuigd dat Gal Gadot - u wel bekend - ging meedoen met eurosong. Maar dit is een puur James Bond lied. Toch? Kruising van stem tussen Adele en Selah Sue. Waw! 

S: Ik denk dat we al lang gemerkt hebben dat Billie Eilish knockoffs het niet goed doen op Eurosong...

N: Inderdaad Margo, een james bond lied maar ik ben geen fan. Ik versta ook niet goed wat ze zingt? maar mogelijks is dit omdat ik verkouden ben.

M: Ook dit mag voor mijn part een James Bond soundtrack worden :p Maar geen eurosong. 

S: I can't either...

N: Nee. skip.

Belgium 12 Points!

Hy guys!

So, yesterday we finished 10th in the Eurovision Song Contest. I must say, I'm not happy that Ukrain won. They, in my opinion, did not deserve it! (But again, that's my opinion.)
Laura ( super goed gedaan meid!!!! We zijn apetrots!) did an amazing job but it, apparently, wasn't enough to get enough 12 points from the other country's.

At (almost) the end of the show Måns and Eva did a little "song" about what a winning song should have... So I did a little digging and I came up with our perfect candidate for next year!

CARROTSQUARE

It's a group of 6 friends from flanders. They write their own songs ( unless they are playing at a covernight) and were actually a schoolband before they took things to the next level. The songs are full of variety; From wild to PARTYYY songs to songs with many emotions and mysterious songs with amazing lyrics. (My personal favorite is Hey Jack) For those who want to know, their name is their own translation of the Dutch word "Vierkantswortel" (Vierkant = square / wortel = Carrot). It means Square Root in English.

According to Måns and Eva, a true Eurovision Song Contest Song should contain of the following elements:

1) a Powerfull majestic start like battlehorn 

2) drums with a hot guy/hot guys playing on them

3) Traditional (folk) Instrument

4) Violin

5) DJ

6) Look memorable

7) Song about Love, Peace, War, not too political with a key change near the end

8) special effects ( like a burning fake piano)

9) Catchy Song

10) Fireworks 

Elements 1,7 and 9 are elements about the song itself so that's up to Carrotsquare or the person(s) that write the song for Carrotsquare...

2) They have a drummer... A good looking one too. 

3) A Traditional Belgian instrument is the Saxophone. They have a saxophonist, an amazing saxophonist to be honest. And the saxophone is well known all over the world. And is known for being great in Eurovision history.

4) A Violin can be played on a piano.

5) A DJ will be the hardest part (because there are 6 of them already) but we always have special effects to cope with that #justfilmthedamndj

6) People in Suits are okay but people in suits with lights are memorable! They have to find THE costume ( SOS JANI) but I don't think it's that hard to find something that will suit them and still look amazing.

8) Special effects are always a must ( look at the stage they used this year: AMAZING!!!!) so, depending on the song they will bring, the background can show (for ex.) a story or pictures or something like that. And than we have the moving stage things and the elements they can use on stage. Mirrors are always cool.

10) Fireworks don't have to be at the finish but if you want to be remebered, USE THEM. A song is just not Eurovision worthy without fireworks or bright lights (that change colour). 

So, if you're not convinced we should consider them as our next candidate for Eurovision, listen to the songs on their Soundcloud page and tell me, honestly, how can you not like a voice like that? It's like the master himself, mister Jimi Hendrix has come back to life and Bruce Springsteen is joining him.
